Pablo Picasso moved through nearly every major problem of twentieth-century European art while repeatedly changing the terms of the conversation. After early academic training in Spain, he developed the Blue and Rose periods in Paris, then worked with Georges Braque to fracture Renaissance perspective into Cubism. He continued to reinvent his language through collage, neoclassical figuration, Surrealist distortion, sculpture, printmaking and ceramics. His career also became a model of the modern artist as a public cultural figure, with an enormous studio output and a life that is inseparable from the history of modernism.
