David Hockney emerged from the Royal College of Art in the early 1960s and quickly built a distinctive figurative practice around relationships, domestic interiors, swimming pools and the light of Southern California. Over six decades he has moved between painting, drawing, printmaking, photographic collage, stage design, fax, iPad and immersive digital work while maintaining an intense interest in how pictures construct space.
